How to Get a TikTok Transcript from a Video

Turn a public TikTok into text, handle short links, and export a reviewed transcript as TXT, SRT, or VTT.

A TikTok transcript gives you the spoken script as searchable text. It is useful for research notes, subtitle editing, content analysis, quote checking, and accessibility. The post caption and hashtags are separate from the words spoken in the video.

Copy the right TikTok link

Open the public video, select Share, and copy the link. A desktop link usually contains the creator handle and a numeric video ID. Mobile sharing often gives you a shorter vm.tiktok.com or vt.tiktok.com URL. Both formats can point to the same public video.

Remove unrelated text that a messaging app placed before or after the URL. Keep the full HTTPS link, including its short-link code or video ID.

Generate the TikTok transcript

  1. Open the TikTok transcript generator.
  2. Paste the public link and generate the transcript.
  3. Read the result while replaying uncertain parts of the video.
  4. Copy the text or download a subtitle file with timestamps.

The tool transcribes the audio itself, so the creator does not need to add captions. Clear speech produces better output than music, crowd noise, overlapping voices, or a clip that starts mid-sentence.

Use file upload when TikTok blocks the link

TikTok changes its public page and delivery rules. A link may work in your browser while automated retrieval is blocked in another region. If the creator allows downloads and you have the right to process the media, save the video and upload that file. File upload avoids the link-fetch step and is the more reliable route.

Review names, slang, and fast speech

TikTok speech often includes usernames, product names, slang, and compressed sentences. Replay these sections and correct them before you quote or publish the transcript. Keep the original link beside your notes so another person can verify the source.

Plain TXT works for reading and research. SRT is the common choice for video editors. VTT fits web players. See the transcript format comparison before you export.
